Walks
di Tobias Boos, Geographer

In July 2022, I arrived in Oppido Lucano for the second season of the “Studi sul qui” project, focusing on walking as a research method for the creation of a collaborative “deep map.” I documented my exploration of the village, recording the route with a geotracker, a GPS application for smartphones that records the route in a file format that can be easily imported into QGis. I took photographs and wrote a protocol of observations and conversations. The research also included “walk along” interviews with residents and conversations with team members to understand their perceptions and the relationship between people and place. The goal was to create a “deep map” that included multiple voices and perspectives of the place.
