Before the July residency, a small group of us spent a few days in Oppido Lucano for an in-depth site visit.
During that phase, we worked on several fronts, talking to people and physically exploring the area. The goal was to prepare the residency from an organizational standpoint, but also to gather useful information for the group and for ourselves.
During those days, I built up a collection of materials and photographic notes, created in a non-systematic way. I used three different cameras to take the photos: a film camera, a digital SLR, and my cell phone. I didn't always have all three with me. Depending on where I was going and how much weight I was carrying, I chose which one to take with me. In addition to logistical issues, the choice of device was influenced by shooting conditions, speed, and even my mood in response to what I was seeing. The result was a diverse collection of situations, places, and details, among which I subsequently began to identify relationships. The shots were shown on the final evening of the residency and are partly collected in the photographic section of the book dedicated to Season 2.

The images I took were fundamental in providing inspiration for the week-long residency, during which I worked on the left-wing identity of the local community. The past and present became blurred in my images, and I used them as a starting point to investigate the present.
