Carousels
di Alessio Zemoz, Photographer

The Municipal Library of Porto Tolle houses a small but fascinating archive of photographs that are both vernacular and institutional in nature. They depict scenes of everyday life, document public, political, and sporting events, and describe places or tragic episodes such as the flood of 1966.
Here I present the project created for the event held at the end of the residency to share the results with the public. The archive images and the images I created were placed in direct relation to each other by reprinting them with a black and white photocopier. As in a hypnotic carousel of fades and wear, we ask ourselves: which ones are vintage and which ones are contemporary? Where are we really? But above all: when are we really?
