Terralabile
di Paolo Martelli, Filmmaker

The Delta is a land that seems anything but stable. A land with shifting, uncertain boundaries, always at risk of becoming or returning to a lagoon. But it is also a land that continues to pursue production models that periodically sink, changing from season to season, just like the river landscape hidden behind the embankments.
This is why I called this short documentary, the result of my residency in Porto Tolle, TERRA LABILE (Unstable Earth). I let myself be carried away by the flow of water, in the many forms it takes in the Delta: river, canal, flooded field, lagoon, sea. The waters led me to encounter old and new productive sectors, old and new trades. Sectors in crisis and sectors full of promise for the future. Because there are two essential elements of these young lands: the water that surrounds and crosses them and the need for economic exploitation of a territory whose existence cannot be taken for granted, but depends on continuous efforts to keep it afloat.
