Reinforced concrete
di Paolo Martelli, Filmmaker

In Oppido, the historic center is located lower than the new part of town. Leaving the asphalt behind to wind my way through narrow stone-paved alleys, descending rather than ascending, conjured up in my mind the silly image of a town turned upside down.
The deeper I delved into that mind, the more another discovery caught my attention: not only did the historic center of Oppido seem almost entirely uninhabited, in many cases it gave the impression of having been abandoned in the haste with which one would flee from a catastrophic event.
I therefore decided to focus my research on this old, semi-abandoned Oppido and on the nostalgic relationship of its inhabitants with their historic center, the embodiment of a recent past full of meaning, but now lost forever and replaced by a present of more comfortable houses with more space to keep a little more distance. Houses made of reinforced concrete.
