abstract

Oppido Lucano, 2022: eleven people for a town that is splitting in two. Old town and new town, high and low, a place of contrasts. Oppido Lucano has an intense political history, marked by change and transformation. A place of emigration, it is now seeing new inhabitants arriving from other countries. We explored the social fabric of Oppido Lucano, seeking to understand the dynamics that animate daily life. We immersed ourselves in the streets, listened to the voices of the inhabitants, and observed how the past is reflected in the present. Oppido Lucano has a distinctive architectural structure that reflects its history. The old town, with its narrow, winding streets, and the new town, with its more modern buildings, bear witness to the different stages of the municipality's development. The following maps are the result of this exploration: stories, photos, impressions. A way to show Oppido Lucano with its contrasts, its challenges, its desire for the future. Season 2 participants: Pietro Ambrosini (architect), Rosa Anatriello (architect), Tobias Boos (geographer), Daniele Ietri (geographer and documentary filmmaker), Paolo Martelli (filmmaker), Eleonora Mastropietro (geographer and documentary filmmaker), Adele Picone (architect), Francesco Rispoli (architect), Chiara Rizzi (architect), Daniela Salvucci (anthropologist), Alessio Zemoz (photographer), Dorothy Louise Zinn (anthropologist), and Piero Zizzania (architect).

Studi sul Qui. Residence in the inland village
Season 2
2023

Authors: Daniele Ietri and Eleonora Mastropietro (edited by)

Abstract: Studi sul Qui is an experimental project conceived by Daniele Ietri and Eleonora Mastropietro and developed in several initiatives since 2013 by the collective of artists and researchers La Fournaise and the deep map lab of the University of Bolzano. The work is inspired by the concept of deep mapping: a detailed mapping of territories, created using a variety of tools and diverse skills. The aim of Studi sul Qui is to recount the present of territories neglected by prevailing narratives, places that often ‘do not matter’. In the summer of 2022, the authors of this volume carried out a deep mapping experience in a research residence: a week of intense work in the field in Oppido Lucano in Basilicata.
